Ethics of War Event

students discuss at round table

ALLIES partnered with another IGL-affiliated group, the New Institute for Middle East Peace, as well as a number of other student groups, to create an event that would bring in students from a range of groups from different ethnic communities, both religious and non-religious, to discuss the morality of war. Drawing on readings describing Christian “Just War Theory” and Islamic jurisprudence and religious thought about war, along with information about how the U.S. military interprets international laws and conventions, including the Geneva Conventions, to place limits on war. This discussion included members of the Tufts Protestant Students Association, Tufts Freethought Society, and other groups around campus, as well as ALLIES and NIMEP members. The group first split into two smaller groups to discuss the readings that were distributed beforehand, and then rejoined after one hour to have a larger joint discussion.
