As the season for applying for internships approached, we decided to host a panel to advise students on how best to go about applying for summer internships. The panel included several members of the executive board as well as other students who had interned at a variety of public and private firms including the Pentagon, the State Department, and the Army War College’s Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute (PKSOI). The panel members began by sketching out a brief outline of the work that they had done, and then proceeded to explain the application process and highlighting resources that were available for applicants (eg, the IGL and Tisch College). They then proceeded to give an overview of the work that their internships entailed, and then proceeded to give tips on acquiring housing, getting scholarships, and going through the security clearance process. In all, the event was well attended, with around 60 students showing up.
